Johannesburg - The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 34 cents per litre on Wednesday next week, the department of energy announced on Friday.

The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel and that of 0.005% sulphur diesel will go down by 1c and 2c per litre respectively.

Wholesale paraffin will drop by 3c/litre, and the price of illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 4c/litre.

There will be also be a 50c per kilogram hike in the maximum retail price for LP GAS.

The department said the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin have gone up.

The price increase comes in spite of the average rand/dollar exchange rate strengthening to R8.0841/$ compared to R8.2122/$ during the previous period.

Petrol 95 ULP octane in Gauteng will now cost R10.95/litre from R10.61 before, while at the coast it will cost R10.65/litre compared with R10.31 previously.
