Johannesburg - The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 36 cents a litre on Wednesday September 2, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday.

Diesel prices will also increase, with 0.05% sulphur rising 35 cents a litre and 0.005% sulphur increasing by 36 cents per litre. Wholesale paraffin increases by 21 cents and illuminating paraffin by 28 cents per litre.

Petrol in Gauteng will now cost 805 cents a litre from 769 cents before, and it is now 782 cents at the coast from 746 cents before.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

The average rand/dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period 31 July 2009 to 27 August 2009 was 7.9913 compared with 7.9840 during the previous period.
