Barry Knoetze, associate director of PricewaterhouseCoopers SA, replies:
As a result of the primary rebate being increased from R9 756 to R10 260 and the secondary rebate for individuals aged 65 years or older going up from R5 400 to R5 675, the tax threshold for taxpayers under 65 will increase from R54 200 to R57 000, and for individuals aged 65 and over from R84 200 to R88 528.
Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan has also announced a R70 increase in the state old age pension to R1 080 per month.
