Johannesburg - The Gautrain route between Park Station and
Rosebank will be operating next week, it was reported on Wednesday.
The Star newspaper reported that Gauteng MEC for roads and
transport Ismail Vadi confirmed that the Gautrain would be fully operational by
next week Friday from Park Station.
He made the announcement during his R4.6m budget in the
provincial legislature on Tuesday.
The opening of the Park Station section was reportedly
postponed last month, due to a dispute between operators Bombela Concession
Company and the provincial government.
The disagreement was reportedly over claims made by Bombela
that a water seepage problem in the tunnel had been addressed, while the
Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) accused Bombela of not taking the problem
seriously.
GMA then refused to open the link between Rosebank and Park
Station.
Vadi said the Gautrain passenger demand on the airport
services remained steady, with about 10 000 passengers a month.
"Since August 2011 to date, almost seven million
passenger trips were made on the Gautrain and 1.5 million trips were made on
the Gautrain buses," said Vadi.
The GMA was also pleased with the property developments that had taken place since the opening of the Rosebank Gautrain station, he said.
