Speaking in his Budget vote in the National Assembly, Radebe said improved longer-term infrastructure investment planning now stretched over the next 20 years in some instances.
He said Transent, Eskom and Denel spent R9bn, R5.6bn and R234m respectively in 2002. They had budgeted R12.6bn, R9.5bn and R246m respectively in 2003.
But he said Transnet intended to spend just over R37.6bn in capital expenditure over the next three years. Metrorail was to spend some R15bn over the next 10 years. Spoornet was engaged in a number of long-term projects, "the largest of which is the planned R42bn investment in rolling stock, refurbishment and fixed infrastructure upgrades between 2002 and 2018".
He said Eskom would investment in technologies to facilitate the efficient use of electricity.
Denel's investment related to the replacement and purchase of new equipment for new contracts.
