Cape Town - A panel will sit over the next three months to work out how the farming sector must change to deal with workers' discontent, it was reported on Wednesday.
The Cape Times reported that the panel would be made up of industry experts from business, unions, farmworkers and government officials.
The panel would be appointed by the Western Cape economic development partnership before the end of the month.
"We want to see how all the players from business, labour and government can work together to transform the sector," said the partnership's acting CEO Andrew Boraine.
"At the moment, the sector is locked into a short-term view of a lose-lose paradox."
Farming towns across the province came to a standstill between November and February this year when workers protested against poor wages and their harsh living conditions.
This led to Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant increasing the daily minimum wage for farmworkers to R105 after inputs by farmers and workers.
