Only 13% of traffic fines collected

Johannesburg  - Only 13% of Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) fines have been collected since 2008, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a parliamentary question, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said in 2012/13 about 3.8 million notices were sent out, but only 371 626 had been collected and paid.

Aarto is the new system government wants to use to administer traffic fines.
