Cape Town - Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant will meet with two major trade union federations this weekend to discuss the union rivalry currently causing disruptions in the mining sector‚ she said at a media conference in parliament on Thursday.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (to which the National Union of Mineworkers is affiliated) and Nactu (to which the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union is affiliated) have been invited to participate in the talks‚ the minister said.
Oliphant also plans to engage with the leadership of the labour movement to discuss the adversarial nature of SA's industrial relations and "to explore ways to arrest the potential threat to our system of collective bargaining".
The labour department is also planning to host a labour relations indaba on the future of collective bargaining and social dialogue.
