Johannesburg - The Zuma administration has been marked by one scandal after the other and Numsa wants President Jacob Zuma to resign.
General secretary Irvin Jim said at a news conference of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA after a special national four-day congress held in Boksburg: "We want President Jacob Zuma to resign with immediate effect because of his administration's pursuit of neo-liberal policies, such as the NDP [National Development Plan], e-tolls, labour brokers... and the track record of his administration which is steeped in corruption, patronage and nepotism."
Jim said the congress also decided that Numsa would neither endorse nor support the African National Congress or any other party in the 2014 elections.
Leadership positions
The union would also stop paying contributions to the Congress of SA Trade Unions and SA Communist Party, said Jim.
Union members had the constitutional right to vote, but union members and officials would campaign in their own time and with their own resources.
"Any individual member is entitled in their own time to be active in any political party, including getting elected to leadership positions.
"However, no Numsa office bearer is allowed to hold any office bearer position of any political party," he said.
