Johannesburg - The National Union of Mineworkers on Tuesday
called its members at Eskom to ready themselves for a strike at the power
utility in protest over executive wages and lack of consultation.
The union said it represents over 16 000 workers at Eskom.
"(The Num) has called on its members to organise themselves
and be ready for a mother of all strike actions...," it said in a statement.
The union said it demands improved consultation, a minimum service level
agreement (MSA) and is protesting the more than doubling in executive wages.
The union has said in the past it was demanding an MSA,
which “would allow a certain number of Eskom workers to go on strike should
there be any labour disagreement”.
Eskom supplies 95% of South Africa’s power and is one of the country’s largest employers. Eskom could not immediately be reached for comment.
