WHAT if the millions and millions of rands/dollars/euros/pounds pouring into medical care daily across the world were being (at least partially) misspent? What if medical professionals were using less than perfect stats to underpin decisions about treatment?
How would patients react if they were given a chance to give really informed consent – instead of under-informed consent, as is often the case?
These were questions UK Dr Aseem Malhotra raised during an enlightening talk at the Old Mutual Health Convention held in Cape Town from February 19-22.
