Johannesburg - Labour expert Alistair Graham Smith has been
appointed executive director of the National Economic Development and Labour
Council (Nedlac), the labour department said on Tuesday.
Smith would replace Herbert Mkhize, who held the position
for eight years, on October 3.
Smith previously headed the Metal and Engineering Industry
Bargaining Council and was a research officer for the National Union of
Metalworkers of SA.
He also had experience as a project director for the
National Labour and Economic Development Institute.
Smith holds a masters degree in philosophy in development
studies and has completed commissioner training with the Commission for
Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said Smith would be an asset to Nedlac.
