Johannesburg - Seasoned lawyer Muvhango Lukhaimane has been appointed deputy Pension Funds adjudicator, the finance department said on Monday.
She took up the position on June 1.
In a statement from the department, Lukhaimane said one of her priorities would be dealing with a backlog of cases.
"My priorities in this new role will be to improve our response times and to educate our members about their rights."
She said ways should be found to deal with those defrauding the department.
Financial Services Board executive Dube Tshidi expressed his support for Lukhaimane.
"The fact that she is a seasoned lawyer and an experienced industry player means that she will bring real value to the pensions industry," he said.
