Johannesburg - Nkosinathi Nhleko has been appointed as the labour department's new director general (DG), it said on Tuesday.
"Nhleko was previously head of the specialised anti-corruption unit in the department of public service and administration", said spokesperson Page Boikanyo.
He replaced Jimmy Manyi, now head of government communication and information services.
Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant said Nhleko "will help us to expedite the implementation of the department's programme of action".
Boikanyo said Nhleko had worked as a deputy municipal manager for the Umhlathuze municipality, in KwaZulu-Natal, and as a regional commissioner with the department of correctional services.
He has served parliament as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration, chairperson of the ANC caucus, ANC chief whip, and is a member of the Judicial Service Commission, she said.
