Cape Town – Residents affected by the City of Cape Town’s load shedding schedule should prepare themselves for outages at different times during the day, due to their new staggered approach, which will be effective from February 1, 2015.
The city decided to change the way they roll out load shedding to ensure the times are more staggered, something many readers of News24 and Fin24 asked for.
However, for those who enjoyed having the same allotted time slot, the new plan will not be welcomed news.
The City of Cape Town said they decided to change it, because “some residents repeatedly experienced scheduled power outages at the most inconvenient times and days of the week”.
They said the old schedule was designed specifically for occasional load shedding during peak demand times, which has been the norm since 2008.
“In order to address this matter, the city has set up a new load shedding schedule that provides a more frequent rotation and is to be implemented in accordance with the days of the month instead,” they said.
As such, residents can get detailed information about load shedding through the following sources:
- www.capetown.gov.za/loadshedding for an area map and the time schedules for the different stages of load shedding (this will only be updated on February 1 with the new schedule)
