Johannesburg - South Africa's net gold and foreign exchange reserves stood at $40.854bn at the end of September from $39.178bn in August, official data showed on Thursday.
Gross reserves also rose to $44.069bn in September from $43.133bn, the Reserve Bank said in a statement posted on its website.
Foreign currency reserves went up $560m to $36.025bn while gold reserves increased by $299m to $5.268bn.
