Johannesburg - Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters will officially launch both the National Transport Forum (NTF) and Transport Sector Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Charter Council in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The NTF was established by a resolution by the Minister and Members of the Executive Committee (Minmec), a committee constituting the minister of transport and MECs responsible for roads and transport and community safety and liaison in provinces.
The NTF will be a "brain trust" of skilled and experienced members (both from the public and private sector, local and international) who are able to assist and guide all levels of government in planning and implementing integrated, sustainable transport projects and programmes.
It will have permanent members representing all cities, key national and provincial Departments, transport agencies and transport stakeholders.
Peters will on Thursday also launch and introduce the members of the transport sector B-BBEE charter council.
During the launch Peters will be joined by various MECs of Transport, CEOs of state-owned companies which are under the department of transport, senior government officials, stakeholders from across the transport sector and the media.
