Pretoria - Water boards were owed at least R1.56 billion at the end of June by the country's various municipalities, water and environment affairs Buyelwa Sonjica revealed in a parliamentary answer to the Democratic Alliance.
Three of them -- Bushbuckridge (Witbank) in Mpumulanga, the Matjhabeng local municipality (Welkom) in the Free State and Mopani district municipality (Giyani) in Limpopo - were behind in their payments to their respective water boards to the tune of R470m, the
DA's Gareth Morgan said.
Bushbuckridge owed R160.1m, Matjhabeng R155.7m and Mopani R155.1m at the end of June.
