Johannesburg - Wage talks between the SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) and the SA Local Government Association (Salga) collapsed on Thursday, Samwu said.
"Samwu has been in talks with the employer Salga over the past three days, October 1 to 3," spokesperson Tahir Sema said in a statement.
"The talks have unfortunately collapsed, due to the intransigence of the employer body."
Sema said Samwu had tried in vain to break the deadlock in negotiations on the main collective agreement, the disciplinary code, and the home owners' allowance increase.
Other areas of disagreement were bringing municipal-owned entities under the scope of the SA Local Government Bargaining Council, and a demarcation dispute settlement agreement.
"The employer's refusal to discuss anything with a monetary value led to the collapse of the negotiations," Sema said.
"Samwu will urgently consult its members on the most appropriate way forward."
Salga was not immediately available for comment.
