Cape Town - A multi-million-rand road rehabilitation project between Worcester and Wyzersdrift is under way and expected to be completed in the next two years.
Restoration work of Main Road 298 on Route 43 is currently in progress and will include widening the Breede River Bridge and repairing other structures along the section of the road.
The estimated R227m contract was expected to be completed towards the end of 2017, the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works said in a statement.
According to the department, a significant amount of employment opportunities - calculated as “50 000 person days” - would be created for residents living in the Breede Valley region with 30% of the contract value expected to go towards enterprises within the Cape Winelands District Municipality.
Two-way traffic would be maintained in the urban area of Rawsonville, with half-width construction in other areas.
Stop/go operations would accommodate traffic during the day and a traffic light system would operate at night, the department advised.
