Johannesburg - The retail prices of 93 octane petrol will fall by 9c a litre and that of 95 octane petrol by 6c a litre on January 6, the Department of Energy announced on Thursday.

Diesel prices will decrease, with 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur both down 14c per litre.

Wholesale paraffin falls by 12c and illuminating paraffin by 16c per litre.

Petrol in Gauteng will costs 786c a litre from 792c before, and 763c at the coast from 769c before.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate firmed when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period November 27 2009 to December 30 2009 was R7.5246 compared with R7.5722 during the previous period.
