Johannesburg - The price of petrol is to drop by 6 cents per litre for 93 octane next week, giving motorists respite for the second month in a row.

Petrol with 95 octane will be 5c/l cheaper, while diesel prices will come down by at least 20c/litre. The reductions bring the price of 95 octane fuel to R10.61/l in Gauteng and R10.31/l at the coast.

Diesel will cost R10.27/l in Gauteng and R10.07 at the coast. The cost of illuminating paraffin will drop by 25c/l and of LP gas by 2c/kg.

The department of energy said global fuel prices have dropped, prompting the decrease, although the rand has weakened against the dollar.

Easing the fuel price helps contain SA's inflation rate.
