Cape Town - The department of energy announced on Friday an increase in the price of 93 octane fuel and a drop for 95 octane fuel, following the previous month's big reprieve.
Petrol 93 (ULP and LRP) is increasing by 2 cents a litre (c/l) and petrol 95 (ULP and LRP) is decreasing by 5 cents a litre (c/l).
Both grades of diesel will drop by 13 c/l.
Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will decrease by 18 c/l and liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase by 12 cents/kilogram.
The prices will take effect from Wednesday, October 1.
"The weakening of the rand against the US dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 17.18 c/l, 17.56 c/l and 17.56 c/l respectively," the department said.
Efficient Group chief economist Dawie Roodt told Fin24 ahead of the announcement that he expected a 6 c/l price drop based on the lower price of oil.
"It would have been much more if it had not been for the weak rand."
Last month cash-strapped consumers received a breather at the pumps when all grades of petrol dropped by 67 c/l.
