Mining chamber gets new president

Johannesburg - The Chamber of Mines of SA has elected Mike Teke as its president, it said on Tuesday.

He replaces Mark Cutifani, who bid the chamber farewell at its annual general meeting in Johannesburg.

Teke is non-executive director at Optimum Coal, and served as Cutifani's deputy.

Anglo American executive director Khanyisile Kweyama was elected as first vice president, and Harmony Gold CEO Graham Briggs as second vice president.

Cutifani urged delegates to continue communicating with government and labour.

"The change in trajectory of this industry starts with everyone in this room. Let us leave our narrow interests behind us when we leave here today. Let us act in a way that always truly puts South Africa first," he said.
