Johannesburg - Metrobus drivers in Johannesburg are expected to return to work by Tuesday next week, the bus company said.
"We have reached an agreement, in principle, with SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu)," Metrobus managing director Herman van Laar said on Wednesday.
"Buses should start operating from Tuesday after the long weekend."
The bus company and Samwu are expected to sign a formal agreement on Thursday. The parties reached an agreement after the union reopened negotiations on Wednesday morning.
Metrobus suspended its service five weeks ago when the strike started, despite only about 70 out of its 500 drivers refusing to work. This was due to those not taking part in the strike fearing intimidation, the company said.
Union member Petros Msiza died during clashes between striking bus and refuse workers, police and metro police at the Pretoria Church Street depot on March 3.
