Johannesburg - South African central bank governor
Tito Mboweni has vaguely broached the subject of the upcoming renewal of his
contract by saying that he still has 15 years of productive ability left in
him.
He said the question would be how he spends these years.
Mboweni said that most statements around this issue needed to be
disregarded. "They are irrelevant," he said.
Reports in the media on Tuesday had speculated that a new incumbent could
be at the helm of the central bank within two months.
Mboweni's contract comes up for renewal on August 7.
Mboweni made his comments at the announcement of Daniel Mminele as the new
deputy governor.
