Johannesburg - Academic Loyiso Mbabane of Walter Sisulu University has been appointed chairperson of the Employment Equity Commission, the university said on Wednesday.

"On behalf of Walter Sisulu University, we congratulate Dr Mbabane on his appointment to this key and high level national role," said university spokesperson Angela Church.

She said the university was confident that Mbabane's experience and expertise within the faculty of business, management sciences and law, would make a significant contribution to the work of the commission.

The appointment came into effect on October 1 and would remain valid until July 31, 2015.
