Marikana - Striking miners affiliated to the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) have on Tuesday rejected the latest wage offer by platinum producers.
"The members have rejected the offer from the employer," Amcu leader Joseph Mathunjwa told reporters after addressing a rally of about 5 000 workers near Lonmin's Marikana mine.
Amcu plans to schedule a meeting with with Anglo American Platinum [JSE:AMS] (Amplats), Impala Platinum [JSE:IMP] (Implats) and Lonmin [JSE:LON] to inform them of the decision taken by the workers.
The producers' latest offer was for wage rises of up to 10% and other increases that would take the minimum pay package - the basic wage including the allowances - to R12 500 a month by July 2017.
They also took their offer directly to workers via the media, text messages and other means.
The strike, which is now in its 14th week, is South Africa's longest and most damaging strike.
