Johannesburg - The SA Reserve Bank's monetary policy committee meeting got underway at the central bank's Pretoria headquarters on Monday morning.
Presiding over the meeting was newly appointed reserve bank
governor Gill Marcus, 60.
She was appointed governor after Tito Mboweni declined an offer
to serve a third term.
Marcus is the Sarb's ninth governor and also its first female
governor.
"We can expect the new governor during the early part of her
reign to be conservative, to build credibility and to improve the transparency of the MPC," Standard Bank economists said in a
research note.
"Those who expect that Ms Marcus will make rapid and radical
changes to the operation of the Reserve Bank as well as its various committees will be disappointed."
