Cape Town – Pravin Gordhan announced in Parliament on Tuesday that from September this year the Revenue Service will want everyone earning money to be registered with Sars.

Introducing the debate on the National Treasury's budget in an extended public committee Gordhan said: "From September this year Sars will require all those receiving any form of employment income – including those below the tax threshold – to be registered with Sars to help reduce the scope for non-compliance."

A spokesperson said later that all employers will be required to register all their employees, and a bulk email will be sent out to enable registration to be done speedily and easily.

The spokesperson said that Sars would add several millions of non-tax payers to the register.

He was however unable to say how many non-taxpayers would be added to the registration lists, but will be more precise in September when the process begins.
