Johannesburg - Tollink South Africa has won a R110m contract
to supply and maintain toll plazas in Limpopo, its Austrian owner Efkon Group
said on Thursday.
"The contract spans eight years and includes the full
upgrade of the N1 north route (57 lanes) toll plazas as well as the maintenance
and support of the system," Efkon said.
The entire SA National Roads Agency Limited project, worth about R600m, was awarded to Tolcon-Lehumo as the operator, Efkon said.
Tollink would be the preferred service provider for the
maintenance component of the contract, valued at R110m.
The project started in June 2011 and the operation service
period was scheduled to end on June 30 2019.
"The system provided by the Efkon Group member will
enable the operator to effectively manage traffic, finance the operation and
handle toll collection and control at the various toll plazas."
The N1 north toll road spans 377km across Limpopo, between
Gauteng and Zimbabwe, and will have four toll plazas.
