Johannesburg - In December 2013, global law firm Hogan Lovells and Routledge Modise announced the combination of the two entities.
The official launch event took place on January 30 in Sandton and introduced the rebranding of the firm to Hogan Lovells.
Attended by both international and local partners, the event highlighted the increasing importance for law firms with a global footprint to have a physical presence in Africa.
From the perspective of Hogan Lovells, this is evidenced particularly as the majority of the firm’s top 200 clients have operations on the continent.
In addition South Africa is still regarded as the gateway into sub-Saharan Africa, with many companies basing their regional headquarters in Johannesburg.
Commenting at the event Nicholas Cheffings, global chair of Hogan Lovells, said Africa is an extremely important market for its clients.
Africa's expanding economies and growing consumer base mean that a significant number of its clients have a rapidly increasing interest in the continent.
