Labour Q&A with Terry Bell
Fin24 user Maluleke Luks believes the country can afford protracted strikes.
He writes:
Yes, I think SA can afford protracted strikes. People who make rules are the ones who violate them. I've been perturbed when I read that we have 16 million people on social grants. If you can afford that much it means you can afford to give the youth the skills that you claim they need.
If our youth have done irrelevant courses, why don't you spend money once and for all by redirecting them and give them the skills?
The rich get richer and the poor people stay the same. That is the SA that we have. So we will eat strikes and sleep protests.
Terry Bell responds:
Nicely put, Maluleke: that we will eat strikes and sleep protests. Indeed, the way things are at the moment, there is little hope of social stability. We really do need some innovative thinking and some radical action if anything is to change.
