A Fin24 user says the loss of his wages because of the violent strike in the metal and engineering industry is painful. He writes:
I work in admin at a small metal manufacturer in Germiston.
I am a black male and not a member of National Union of Metalworkers of SA, however for three weeks now I haven't been able to go to work for fear of intimidation.
My colleagues of colour have been working but under scary conditions. There are intimidating marches past the factory almost daily.
As an employee, the financial loss to me is immeasurable.
While I respect the unions right to strike and picket, I also expect my right to work to be respected. As salaried workers we negotiate directly with management and they have been generous all round so far.
I believe that the unions negotiating strength is being undermined by the violence and intimidation.
Please stop the intimidation and violence.
