Johannesburg - Miners returning to work after the North West platinum belt strike were going through their check ups and training updates by the mines, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) said on Tuesday.
"The process is running smoothly. The workers are undergoing medical checks," said North West regional organiser Zolisa Bodlana.
He said the mines started with its own employees for the health and safety protocols, and the refresher training on general mine operations.
The next round of people undergoing this process would be contractors.
Amcu members at Lonmin [JSE:LON], Impala Platinum (Implats) and Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) [JSE:AMS] went on strike on January 23 demanding a basic monthly salary of R12 500.
They have agreed on a three-year wage deal on June 24.
In terms of the agreement, the salary of the lowest paid worker will increase by R1 000 in the first two years and R950 in the third year.
Amplats said it expected its headline earning per share (HEPS) and basic earnings per share (EPS) to decrease due to the strike.
The company said in a statement that it was finalising its results for the six months ending June 30.
It said headline earnings per share (HEPS) for the period was expected to decrease to between 20 cents and 80 cents from 514 cents reported for the six months ended June 30, 2013.
Basic earnings per share (EPS) for the period was expected to decrease to between 130 cents and 180 cents from 468 cents for the comparative period.
"The decrease in HEPS and EPS is primarily due to the impact of the five month industrial action which impacted on operational performance," the company said.
