Pikitup boss cleared on tender fraud claims

Johannesburg - Suspended Pikitup managing director Amanda Nair has been cleared of wrongdoing relating to the awarding of a multi-million rand tender, The Star reported on Wednesday.

"The bidding process for the tender was initiated prior to the appointment of Ms Nair as managing director of Pikitup, and was processed following normal supply chain management procedures," City of Johannesburg mayoral committee member Matshidiso Mfikoe said.

He said Nair had been cleared of all allegations, and there was no reason not to reinstate her.

Nair was accused of awarding a R263m tender to Aqua Transport Plant Hire after the company was implicated in fraud.

Nair was suspended for a year and a new board of directors made the decision to reinstate her.

She was due to resume her duties on Thursday.
