MyCiti drivers' strike continues

Cape Town - The strike by MyCiti bus drivers is set to continue, the City of Cape Town said on Wednesday.

"The City of Cape Town has been informed that the strike by bus drivers who are employed by the Transpeninsula Investments (TPI) vehicle operating company (VOC) is continuing," mayoral committee member for transport Brett Herron said in a statement.

Commuters are advised to make alternative transport arrangements for Thursday.

The delays were expected to occur on the following routes:

- A01 (Airport, Civic Centre)

- T01 (Dunoon, Table View, Civic Centre, Waterfront)

- 101 (Vredehoek, Gardens, Civic Centre)

- 102 (Salt River Rail, Walmer Estate, Civic Centre)

- 103 (Oranjezicht, Gardens, Civic Centre)

- 105 (Sea Point, Fresnaye, Civic Centre)

- 107 (Civic Centre, Camps Bay, anti-clockwise)

- 108 (Hangberg, Sea Point, Adderley)

- 108a (Civic Centre, Queens Beach)

- 109 (Hout Bay, Imizamo Yethu, Sea Point, Adderley)

- 110 (Table Mountain).

Herron said on Monday the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) gave notice of a strike on Wednesday.

The dispute between TPI and Satawu revolved around organisational rights and the interpretation of clauses in the recognition agreement between the two parties.

The matter was referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration for resolution in October last year, but remained unresolved.

"At this stage it is unclear how long the strike will last," Herron said.

Contingency plans were in place to limit the effects of the strike.
