Hospitality workers get 7.7% pay hike

Johannesburg - The minimum wage in the hospitality sector has increased by 7.7%, the department of labour said on Tuesday.

It will be effected from July 1, said spokesperson Page Boikanyo.

"The minimum wage increase is determined by adding 6.2% (consumer price index) plus 1.5% as stated in the current sectoral determination."

Sectoral determination prescribes minimum wage rates and conditions of employment in the sector.

For employers with 10 or less employees, the new monthly minimum rate will increase from R2 415.86 to R2 601.88. Weekly wages will increase from R5 57.55 to R6 00.48, and hourly rates will be adjusted from R12.39 to R13.34.

The minimum wages for employers with more than 10 employees will be a monthly increase from R2 692.74 to R2 900.08, weekly rates from R621.45 to R669.30, and hourly rates will be adjusted from R13.81 to R14.87.
