Amcu expected to sign wage deal

Rustenburg - Amcu members sang struggle songs as they filed into the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, near Rustenburg, on Monday to witness the signing of a wage settlement in the platinum sector.

Union leader Joseph Mathunjwa was expected to sign the wage settlement with the CEOs of Lonmin [JSE:LON], Impala Platinum [JSE:IMP] and Anglo American Platinum [JSE:AMS] (Amplats) later on Monday to end the five-month-long strike.

"We expect CEOs to be here. The agreement will be signed here at the stadium," branch leader Abram Ramasedi said.

A tent had been erected at the stadium where the signing would take place.

Union members in green T-shirts were bused in from various shafts, including Amplats' operations in Limpopo.

Amcu members have been on strike since January 23 demanding a basic monthly salary of R12 500.
