Pretoria - The primary objective of the SA Reserve Bank (Sarb) is to protect the value of the rand in the interest of balanced and sustainable growth, deputy governor Lesetja Kganyago said on Monday.
"Growth can't be balanced if there are internal or external imbalances," Kganyago told a news conference after his appointment to succeed outgoing Sarb governor Gill Marcus next month.
"The primary object of Sarb is to ensure balanced and sustainable growth," said Kganyago at the media briefing.
He said he has learnt "from the best matriarch who knows where the best watering holes are".
Kganyago said he realises challenges will remain what they have been.
"I do not foresee new challenges at this point, but others might crop up," he said.
