Kenya pioneers aerotropolis in East Africa

Nairobi - August was a pivotal month for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which has risen like a phoenix from the flames back to full operating capacity despite the destruction of the international arrivals and departures terminal from a fire.

Nairobi has long held its rank as one of Africa’s top three aviation hubs despite the ageing infrastructure of its main international air traffic conduit, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

But the newly reconstructed airport facilities coupled with further construction projects on the horizon, promise increased aerotropolis development for the region.

Next month, Henry Ogoye, head of corporate planning and strategy at Kenya Airports Authority will address delegates at the African Airports Evolution Forum being held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The purpose is to unite Africa’s leading aviation personalities from over ten countries.

Ogoye will provide an insider perspective on the reconstruction at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

He will outline how the Kenya Airports Authority fast-tracked development, with the assistance of the China National Aero-technology International Engineering Corporation, to reach 100% operational capacity in record time.

The African Airports Evolution Forum is a strategic think-tank opportunity for discussion on airport development, airspace and market liberalisation, regional trade collaboration, and the role of the aviation industry in decreasing the cost of doing business in Africa.

Open dialogue and cross border collaboration are key to aligning supply with demand in Africa’s aviation industry as air traffic demand continues to grow.
