Johannesburg - Wholesale trade sales at constant 2000 prices for July increased by 8.8% year-on-year (y/y) compared with a 3.7% y/y growth in May‚ Statistics SA data showed on Thursday.
Wholesale trade sales increased by 13.1% y/y in nominal terms in July.
Measured in real terms‚ seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales rose by 0.6% in July 2012 compared with June 2012 following month-on-month changes of -4.3% in June 2012 and 1.8% in May 2012.
Measured in nominal terms (current prices)‚ wholesale trade sales increased by 13.1% for the three months ended July 2012 compared with the same period in 2011.
The three major contributors to this increase were dealers in: solid‚ liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (20.8% and contributing 4.7 percentage points); machinery‚ equipment and supplies (15.8% and contributing 2.1 percentage points); and food‚ beverages and tobacco (10.9% and contributing 1.7 percentage points).
