Joburg Zoo back to normal after strike

Johannesburg - Operations at the Johannesburg Zoo have returned to normal after some employees downed tools, the zoo said on Tuesday.

"All is under control and everybody has returned to work today [Tuesday]," spokesperson Jenny Moodley said.

On Monday, 90 employees downed tools in protest over the merger of the zoo and City Parks.

The staff members demanded a meeting with the managing director to discuss their concerns, she said. The meeting took place at 14:00. The employees were asked to write down their grievances and submit the list to the managing director.

Moodley said there was no disruption in feeding animals because at the time of the meeting the animals had already been fed.

"We also had measures to ensure that enclosures were safe and the safety of visitors was prioritised."
