Johannesburg - Numsa is being isolated by the ANC and the SACP after coming to the defence of suspended Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, the union said on Thursday.
"As the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), we have observed a consistent pattern [by] the SA Communist Party and the African National Congress to isolate Numsa, especially [because we] have taken the position to defend Vavi," Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim told reporters in Johannesburg.
"We don't understand why Numsa should be isolated," he said.
One of the matters decided at the Congress of SA Trade Unions' (Cosatu) central executive committee (CEC) meeting the past three days was that there should be a probe into Numsa's conduct.
"We don't understand [why] there should be a focus on Numsa being investigated. Numsa is not a stepchild in Cosatu, we pay subscriptions." said Jim.
He said SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande had been reported as saying Numsa was working with dirty money to bankroll other affiliates.
"Whatever rands and cents we have come from our members. We don't need Nzimande's permission to run a special national congress."
He said those who had knowledge about dodgy dealings were participants in them, and if Nzimande had knowledge to share then he should have a workshop.
Cosatu's CEC released a report on Thursday following its three-day meeting.
Numsa deputy general secretary Karl Cloete said it had been a painful three days of unfair treatment for Numsa and the other nine affiliates which had called for a special national congress by Cosatu.
He said they had often been told that their time to address the meeting was coming, and when it eventually came, they would be disrupted or cut off while speaking.
This had not been done to the other unions which were on Cosatu's side, Cloete said.
