Johannesburg - South Africa's headline consumer inflation quickened to 6.1% year-on-year in April, slightly above market expectations, from 6.0% in March, Statistics SA said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis prices also beat expectations, increasing by 0.5% in April from 1.3% previously.
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, was unchanged at 5.5% year-on-year, but slowed to 0.4% month-on-month compared with 1.2% in March.
