Johannesburg - South Africa's headline consumer inflation quickened in February to 5.9% year-on-year as expected, from 5.8% in January, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis prices stood at 1.1%, from 0.7% in January and against market expectations of 1.07%.
Core inflation - which excludes the volatile prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy - was unchanged at 5.3% on a year-on-year basis but quickened to 1.2% month-on-month.
