Johannesburg - South Africa's headline consumer inflation accelerated more than expected to 6.6% year-on-year (y/y) in May from 6.1% in April, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month (m/m) basis, prices increased by 0.2% in May from 0.5% previously.
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, was unchanged at 5.5% y/y, but slowed to 0.1% m/m compared with 0.4% in April.
