Johannesburg - Consumer price inflation (CPI) eased further to 4.9% in July, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.

"The official inflation rate (the percentage change in the CPI for all urban areas in July 2012 compared with that in July 2011) was 4.9% at July 2012," the agency said in a brief statement.

This rate was 0.6% lower than the corresponding annual rate of 5.5% in June.

Inflation has been on a downward trend since April this year, when it reached 6.1%.
