Cape Town - The government's revamped industrial policy action plan was not a wishlist, but had already created and saved tens of thousands of jobs in the automobile and textile industries, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said on Tuesday.
"We are beginning to see positive outcomes," Davies said in his budget vote speech.
He said 24 000 jobs had been created in local component manufacturing in the car industry and 40 000 jobs had been retained in the embattled clothing industry.
Davies warned however that sustained and determined effort was necessary to make the industrial plan work amid the uncertainties of the slow global economic recovery.
