Johannesburg - The submission deadline for a draft review of the end-user and subscriber service charter has been extended, the Independent Communications Authority of SA said on Monday.
The extension was moved from January 21 to March 14, said spokesperson Paseka Maleka in a statement.
"The extension has been granted based on requests from interested stakeholders, and in the public interest and fairness."
The notice of the extension would be published in the Government Gazette during the week and no further extensions would be granted, he said.
Maleka said the end-user and subscriber service charter was a regulation aimed at ensuring end-users and subscribers were provided with high quality services by licensees.
"The charter seeks to prescribe the minimum standards for services to end-users and subscribers to electronic communications network and services licensees."
It also sought to ensure the service was offered in accordance with established service parameters.
Icasa believed the charter would address the difficulty of poor network quality and dropped calls which customers had been complaining about recently, Maleka said.
"It is expected that the finalisation of the regulations will encourage licensees to utilise their licensed spectrum efficiently to meet the demands of consumers and to comply with the said set of regulations."
